when i die, i will be dead
the hysteria and humor of being human
Two new dance theatre works, 'New York, I Love you! I Hate You… Now Dance!' and 'Dokuen' explore inclusion, grief and the humor of being human, as characters oscillate between hilarity and hysteria.
Boldly using direct audience experience and participation, New York, I Love You, I Hate You… Now Dance!! simulates a NY dance audition, investigating the treatment and fate of dancers from many backgrounds, who flock to NYC to become stars.
Dokuen, or ‘solo’ in Japanese, reflects on identity and grief and exhumes the myriad of emotional reactions that remind us of the levity and solemnity in life and death.
